Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding is one of the healthiest ways you can choose to feed and care for your baby. The skin-to-skin contact promotes a sense of closeness and security for your baby and supports bonding.

“Human milk has the best nutrients, calories and fluids your baby needs to be healthy. It is easy for your baby to digest, and helps protect your baby from disease and infection.” —The American Academy of Pediatrics

Although breastfeeding is natural, we know that mothers may need extra support and guidance to get started. At Baptist, our specially trained nurses assist mothers with breastfeeding by answering questions and sharing overall breastfeeding care information. There are nurses on staff who are Certified Breastfeeding Counselors and we also have nurses who have earned their National certification from the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants.

Mothers can take advantage of additional breastfeeding and newborn support offered by the Baptist Hospital gift shop. Supplies can conveniently be purchased right in the hospital including:

  • Sales and rentals of breast pumps and supplies
  • Breastfeeding and bottle supplies
  • Newborn apparel
  • Newborn gifts
