Champion Ruby Hess Goes Above And Beyond To Live The Baptist Culture
Ruby Hess has worked in several roles at Baptist, with her most recent one being in talent engagement as part of human resources. Ruby is always thinking outside the box for process improvement. What most people note about Ruby is her huge heart for people.
During a new hire appointment, Ruby was talking to a new hire and learned that she was expecting. Ruby congratulated the new hire and shared in her excitement. During the exciting conversation, Ruby learned of some challenges the new hire faced early in her pregnancy. The challenge she faced was the foundation of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs--clothing. Ruby took it upon herself to gather some clothing items for the new hire so that she didn’t have to worry about clothing during this time as her body changed. Ruby contacted the new hire and provided these items to her, and she was very grateful. The new hire thanked Ruby and invited her to her baby shower. After delivery, the new hire sent pictures of the baby and even brought the baby to the office!
In addition, Ruby has crocheted a blanket for a co-worker’s newborn and made a cup for a welcome home celebration for a family member. Each year, Ruby also spends her birthday volunteering at Feeding America to give back to others in the community; she helps sort food into bags for families in need to pick up. Because of her experience with the new hire she assisted, Ruby is also working to develop a partnership with Careersource Escarosa and the Baptist Foundation to help other new hires get clothing/uniforms as they start their new jobs. Ruby also makes crafts to sell and donates the profits to give back to those in need. She uses some of the profits to invest in yarn to make winter hats and puts them at bus stops and areas where indigent populations are known to be so they can stay warm. Then she puts the remainder into buying dog/puppy food for Saving With Soul Pet Rescue.
There are countless examples of Ruby's compassion for her fellow team members and the community. Ruby is a true example of living the Baptist Way in every interaction. Thank you, Ruby, for showing compassion to this new hire, removing a hurdle so that she can enjoy this exciting time in her life, and being a beacon of light at Baptist.
