What led you to become a doctor or choose your focus of medicine?
I was influenced to become a doctor by my father and grandfather. Later in medical school I discovered my passion for gastroenterology, while I was working in basic and translational liver research in Madrid, Spain.

What about your line of work do you find most rewarding and why?
A positive impact beyond my patient’s life. Being able to restore or balance their health has an impact to them, their families and what they do in society.

What is something about you that only your patients would know?
We chat about their personal life situations that they share with me.

Friendly and diligent.

What’s your proudest moment as a doctor?
When I make a complicated diagnosis or treatment.

In your opinion, what’s the most important factor in a doctor-patient relationship?
Communication.

What can a patient expect when they have you as a doctor?
Be seen on time with the patient’s available information already reviewed.

What do you find most encouraging about the work you do?
When there is a great outcome.

What are your top priorities with every patient you see?
My priorities are to know what my patients understand about their condition, educate them and build our relationship from there.

Close follow-up and good supportive staff.

Small bowel disorders especially intestinal metaplasia.
