Baptist Health Care Announces Design and Construction Team for New Baptist Hospital

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Dec. 5, 2019) – Baptist Health Care has selected the architect, program manager and general contractor for the planning and construction of its new 650,000-square-foot replacement hospital and medical office building that will be built at the intersection of Brent Lane and I-110 in Pensacola, Florida.
These companies were selected based on individual industry-wide reputations and extensive experience in designing, planning and building health care facilities similar to the proposed hospital and medical office building. As the project moves forward, Baptist expects that many local skilled subcontractors will be brought on board.
Gresham Smith will serve as architect. A nationally-renowned architecture, engineering and design practice with 27 locations throughout the United States and Asia, Gresham Smith brings more than 50 years of experience in health care construction to the project. The firm has designed expansions and facilities for UF Health, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Tallahassee Memorial Health Care, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and many more. Designs focus on patient safety, quality, efficiency, technology integration, adaptability/resiliency, sustainability and the human experience.
Meadows & Ohly of Peachtree Corners, Georgia will serve as program manager with responsibility for the organization, coordination and processes involved in construction. It has successfully completed over 5 million square feet of health care construction over the past 10 years. Some of Meadows & Ohly’s projects in the Southeast from the past 47 years include the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute, Piedmont Medical Plaza and Midtown Medical Plaza.
Brasfield & Gorrie will serve as general contractor. Founded in 1964, the Birmingham, Alabama-based company has 12 offices and 3,000 employees. It has earned national recognition for its work. Health care construction represents Brasfield & Gorrie’s largest market sector. The company’s client list includes AdventHealth, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Clemson University, Grandview Medical Center, UAB and the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Baptist Health Care announced plans in June to build a new full-scale hospital as part of a long-term master plan to transform the way health care is provided for generations to come. The new hospital will provide a central location for clinical care, programs and services that will be easier for patients to access via the I-110 corridor. Equipped with innovative technologies for diagnosis and treatment along with a concentration of related services, the facility will provide a seamless continuum of care that is more convenient for the patient and better optimizes resources.
