The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) updated its Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating data for the seventh time since the program’s inception in July of 2016, and Baptist Health Care hospitals earned top ratings among area hospitals.

“We are very proud of our teams who work diligently to ensure the highest level of care throughout the organization,” said Scott Raynes, executive vice president, Baptist Health Care. “This recognition reflects our commitment to quality and dedication to continuously improving the patient experience.

CMS awarded Gulf Breeze Hospital with its fifth consecutive five-star rating, while Baptist Hospital was awarded four stars and Jay Hospital was awarded three stars.

Gulf Breeze Hospital, an affiliate of Baptist Health Care, ranks among the top 8% (266) of hospitals in the United States by earning top marks. Gulf Breeze Hospital is the only area five-star rated hospital. It is also one of 11 hospitals among 217 facilities in the state of Florida to earn the five-star rating. The facility is located in south Santa Rosa County and has earned five consecutive five-star ratings and two four-star ratings since CMS introduced the system into use.

“I am continually proud to see our providers and team members provide high quality patient care and a phenomenal experience for our patients on a daily basis,” said Beau Pollard, MBA, administrator of Gulf Breeze Hospital. “These consecutive five-star ratings are a testament to the strong culture that exists at Gulf Breeze Hospital and throughout Baptist Health Care.”

Hospitals are assessed on publicly reported HCAHPS data and include patient experience, timely and effective care, complications, readmissions, use of medical imaging and value of care. The updated ratings represent data that was collected during the 2019 calendar year.

The Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating is designed to help individuals, their family members and caregivers compare the quality of care at over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the country.
