The Fire Watch - Veteran Safe Place - Together, we will end veteran suicide.

Pensacola, Fla. (May 15, 2024)—Baptist Hospital has been recognized as and designated a “Veteran Safe Place” (VSP) by The Fire Watch program, an organization that trains community members to be vigilant about veterans' needs to prevent veteran suicide. Baptist met the required team member participation threshold to be designated across the organization and continues to offer the program to any interested team members.

Each year, over 6,000 United States veterans take their lives. The Fire Watch Veteran Safe Place program recognizes businesses and organizations in our community that have chosen to train and mobilize their employees to be vigilant to the concerns of veterans and to direct veterans to the support they need.

With this designation, the Fire Watch will recognize Baptist as a place for veterans to go for safety. This designation is symbolized through a certificate and graphic icons that can be identified at various locations throughout the Baptist Hospital facility.

Baptist Hospital will be only the second health care system in Florida with this designation. Other designees joining in the fight to end veteran suicide are the University of Florida Health, the Wounded Warrior Project, United Way, K9’s for Warriors and the Jacksonville Jaguars football team.

Baptist Health Care is excited and honored to provide services, safety and sanctuary to our community’s veterans, service members and their families.
