Baptist Hospital Nurse Sergio Torres, R.N., Presented DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Sergio Torres, R.N., a nurse in the Baptist Hospital cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU), has been honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Torres’ nomination came from a fellow nurse who has not only worked alongside him, but also experienced Torres’ dedication to his patients when he cared for one of her family members. She included these remarks in her nomination: “I’ve had the opportunity to interact with nurses from all the floors and units. I believe we are lucky to have some of the best people in our field working here [at Baptist.] He is such a great role model for new nurses and a reminder of what nursing truly is about for those of us that have been around for a while.”

The DAISY Award is part of a national merit-based recognition program established by the DAISY Foundation that celebrates the education, training and skill that nurses put into their work every day and, especially, the devoted care they give their patients. Nominations can be submitted by patients, families, physicians and colleagues. Names from nominations are removed so that they are anonymous before being reviewed by a selection committee. One nurse is then chosen as the DAISY Award winner. DAISY Awards are presented on a regular basis, usually monthly or quarterly.
