Baptist Hospital Nurses Honored with DAISY Awards

Rebecca Henderson, R.N., and Laura Amerson, R.N., have been honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Henderson and Amerson work in the orthopedic unit at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
Henderson and Amerson were recognized by a patient for the extraordinary care they provided. Henderson noticed concerning changes to a patient’s vital signs and called Amerson to assist. “I thank God for these two nurses and their alertness,” the nomination read. “I believe their actions saved my husband's life.”
The DAISY Award is part of a national merit-based recognition program established by the DAISY Foundation. It celebrates the education, training and skills nurses put into their work daily and, especially, the devoted care they give their patients. Nominations can be submitted by patients, families, physicians and colleagues. Names from nominations are removed to be anonymous before being reviewed by a selection committee. One nurse is then chosen as the DAISY Award winner. DAISY Awards are presented regularly, usually monthly or quarterly.
"The DAISY Award is a wonderful way for Baptist Health Care to recognize nurses for the expert, compassionate care they provide every day. Nurses serve as patient advocates and skilled care providers,” said Baptist Health Care Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Joyce Nichols, APRN, FNP-BC, CWOCN. “The role of the front-line nurse has never been more important. We are proud to participate in the DAISY Award program and to recognize our nurses for providing a healing touch to their patients, both physically and emotionally."
