Volunteer Opportunities

BAPTIST MEDICAL TOWERS ESCORT — The Baptist Medical Towers volunteers greet patients/guests and provide directions, information and escorting services as needed. The volunteer augments existing hospital services through personal attention and caring. The volunteer is an integral part of the hospital team and works closely with and is supervised by the department staff.

Ability to be on one’s feet for several hours at a time, ability to walk, push a wheelchair, bend. Be outgoing and friendly, have good people skills, ability to read and write, take written and verbal orders. Must be compassionate, caring, sensitive and understanding. High degree of confidentiality. Like to be with people and the desire to help.


NURSING (PATIENT CARE AREAS) — The Nursing Services volunteer provides assistance to the staff, patients, families, and visitors. Volunteers augment existing services through personal attention and caring, assist with nursing and patient care activities. Volunteers carry our routine and assigned non-nursing duties.

Ability to walk, push, bend and lift. Communication skills; reading, writing and listening. Be a people person, caring and compassionate. Have a level head and be in control of self during emergency situations. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Manual dexterity, ability to deal with sick people. Confidentiality is a must.

OFFICE SUPPORT — The Office Support volunteer provides assistance to many departments of the hospital. Volunteers augment existing services through personal attention and caring. The volunteer is an integral part of the hospital team and works closely with and is supervised by the departmental staff in which he/she works.

Ability to read and write, take oral and written orders, ability to take accurate messages. Good telephone skills. Some knowledge of copy machine, typewriter, calculator and computers. Bending, lifting, stooping, sitting, walking, standing and reaching is required. Good organizational skills helpful. Ability to file in alphabetical and numerical order. Must be accurate, tactful and maintain strict confidentiality. Outgoing, friendly and work well with staff.

SURGERY AND OUT PATIENT SURGERY WAITING ROOMS — The volunteer of the Family Waiting Rooms serve as a supportive liaison between the patients family and the operating room personnel. The volunteer who serves as hostess in this room must have a level head and capable of facing some difficult situations; communicates only information as directed by the operating room staff to the family and friends. The volunteer is an integral part of the hospital team, by working closely with the department staff.

High degree of confidentiality, ability to read and write, take oral and written orders, ability to take accurate messages. Be sensitive, understanding, and caring. Good communication and people skills. Dependable. Ability to keep calm in stressful situations.

INFORMATION DESK — The Information Desk volunteer provides information and directions to our customers. The volunteers greet customers, provide information and directions, escort to various locations, answer telephone and questions, take accurate messages, maintain clean and orderly lobby, and assist staff as requested.

Good communication skills, vision and hearing a must. Good telephone skills, some typing skills helpful. Ability to walk and push wheelchair, some bending and lifting. High degree of confidentiality. Outgoing personality, good people skills, and a caring and patient person. Knowledge of the hospital and departments.
