PIF or Process Improvement Fundamentals

Process Improvement Fundamentals (PIF) is an internal program that teaches an innovative approach to reducing errors and frustration, improves quality and safety, and adds value for the people we serve. Some of the lessons PIF teaches include:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Measurable ways to track and sustain progress while maintaining focus on the people we serve
  • The best method for hardwiring evidence-based best practices across the organization classes, or “Waves,” that occur each quarter and prove that small changes can have huge impacts

High Reliability

Baptist Health Care has applied High Reliability Science, the study of organizations in industries like commercial aviation and nuclear power, in order to maintain safety levels that are consistent and compatible to those of the best high-reliability organizations.

Our commitment to High Reliability includes embedding the relentless desire to identify potential issues and embrace opportunities for correction. Each team member at Baptist Health Care is empowered and encouraged to intervene in processes and make adjustments or corrections as appropriate in order to keep patients safe and optimize outcomes.

Safety Huddles

The safety huddle is a 15-minute meeting to discuss operational issues, safety opportunities and how to improve the patient-client experience. Everyone can benefit from these short daily discussions and learn how their area impacts the patient-client experience. Clinical, non-clinical, administrators, doctors and volunteers attend. Everyone is welcome to share real-time information.

DNV HEALTHCARE

Patient safety evaluations are critical to any health care organization. These periodic evaluations are performed by accrediting organizations recognized for excellence by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). DNV Healthcare (DNV) is an accrediting body with a worldwide reputation for quality and integrity in certification, standards development and risk management. DNV’s accreditation model focuses on promoting continuous improvement, sustaining any improvements made, and never losing sight that patient safety is the number one priority. By achieving accreditation through DNV, Baptist Health Care demonstrates that our organization is committed to providing highly reliable care to every patient, every time.

Patient Surveys

Feedback is important to us as it sheds light on opportunities. For example, patient surveys help reassure committed employees that they are providing outstanding patient care. Surveys also tell us how we can improve care processes and delivery systems. Patients guide us to do our job even better.
